Lilac Wellness Center - The Natural Path To Wellness
Shiatsu is a form of therapeutic bodywork from Japan and is only one hundred years old.  Shiatsu was developed from an ancient Chinese healing art known as Anma dating back over 2,000 years old and is firmly rooted in the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  TCM professionals believe that illness and disease is a result of an imbalance of vital energy known as Qi (pronounced “chee”).  Qi flows in energy pathways called meridians.  The qi can be influenced by manipulating specific points along the meridians to maintain good health.  Health is when there is abundant qi in the meridians and the flow is unobstructed. When qi becomes out of balance and the flow is blocked, symptoms occur to let us know we need to do something about it.  Such symptoms could be headaches, muscle pain, fatigue, emotional issues, digestive disorders or just a general feeling of imbalance.

We become ill when our qi or vital energy is at an imbalance.

Shiatsu will help to:

Relieve muscle stiffness
Stimulates the skin
Regulates the nervous system
Aids in proper digestion
Stimulates the circulation of blood, lymph and hormonal secretions

What can you expect when you come for shiatsu?

You will be asked to complete a health history form with questions regarding health history, lifestyle, and work place environment.

In a Shiatsu session, the practitioner first evaluates the client to determine what patterns of imbalance may be present. The style of session is developed around the needs of the client.  Techniques used include pressure, kneading, soothing, tapping, and stretching, all aimed to balance the qi.

Shiatsu can be used for:

Neck/shoulder/back pain                 Chronic headaches
Joint pain                                           Sciatica
Insomnia                                            PMS & menopausal symptoms
Digestive disorders                          Fatigue
Anxiety/irritability                           Hypertension
Poor circulation                               Stress related disorders

You will be asked to wear loose comfortable clothing, as you will remain fully clothed for your session.  Sessions usually last an hour and is an investment in maintaining your good health. Shiatsu strengthens the immune system and if practiced consistently, it truly becomes preventive health care.
